What Lives in Your Belly Button?

A recent study by a North Carolina State University team has revealed a veritable “rain forest” of species found in the 60 or so navels that where sampled.  Given that the belly button is one of the body’s least frequently scrubbed crannies, the survey revealed that this common source of introspection is rife with bacteria.  Within those navels sampled there were discovered a total of 2,368 bacterial species, 1,458 of which may be new to science.
