Privacy-Protecting Add-On Disconnect
Lifehacker has a great article today on a security add-on for the Firefox, Chrome and Safari browsers that eliminates the “tracking” of your Web activities that sites like Twitter and Facebook do without your permission via insecure widgets or social plug-ins. This easy to install extension/add-on effectively blocks this type of communication, thus preserving your privacy when browsing. The newest version of this add-on, called “Disconnect”, also secures communication to these social sites by enforcing a secure connection when using wi-fi. The current version protects against YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google, Gmail, Twitter, and Yahoo sessions and more social sites will be added in future versions.
I have been using earlier versions of this add-on with both Chrome and Firefox, trouble-free, for several months.
